RESOLVE: Reconciliation thru Youth – kick off youth exchange

February 2019

Erasmus+ RESOLVE: Reconciliation thru Youth activities kicked off in London in February 2019.

RESOLVE: Reconciliation thru Youth (RESOLVE: Recon4Y), is a Youth Development mobility programme, which aims to use the power of reconciliation tools such as Sport for Peace, Simulation Games and People-to-People Dialogue to resolve local and community conflict which especially affect young people in the partnership countries.

In London, Resolvers from Sweden, UK, Georgia and Israel participated in a week of reconciliation activities. Meeting professional peacebuilders including Jo Berry, founder of Building Bridges for Peace (http://www.buildingbridgesforpeace.org), visited St. Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace and learned about its background and how the centre came into being through conflict.

Resolvers also enjoyed some quiet time for reflection in St. Ethelburga’s very own Bedouin tent.

The next stop for RESOLVE: Reconciliation thru Youth is Tbilisi, Georgia in May 2019.

RESOLVE: East – London February 2019

This month, Asfar hosted the Erasmus+ RESOLVE: East London youth exchange. The final transnational activity before Resolvers (participants) return to their own country and finalise their plans to deliver their own local social action activity between February and March 2019.

During the London RESOLVE: East activity, Resolvers met with Peacebuilders, such as Jo Berry, founder of Building Bridges for Peace (http://www.buildingbridgesforpeace.org), built a peace tower, learned how Sport can be used as a tool for peace and development and visited Europe House and participated in a Involver (involver.org.uk) organised BREXIT and conflict resolution activity.

Groups from Georgia, Bosnia-i-Herzegovina, Turkey and the UK, engaged, learned new skills and together developed into Community Peacebuilders throughout the programme and this was most evident during the final youth exchange and RESOLVE: Network meeting. With the final planning elements in place before each national group leads their own community social action activity, participants were very keen to make plans on how to sustain the network beyond the lifetime of the project through social action.

RESOLVE: East is due to end in April 2019, however, the next RESOLVE programme launches in late February 2019. To get involved apply here – https://www.asfar.org.uk/apply-now/

Asfar’s is currently recruiting UK participants aged 18 to 30 to participate in our Erasmus+ RESOLVE: East activity in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The dates are: 5th November 2018 to 11th November 2018.

The youth exchange is specifically aimed at young adults who wish to develop their skill-sets to be our communities’ future Peacebuilders, leaders and be involved in and launch a Conflict Resolution & Peace Network.

Sarajevo, will kick-start our project, the city which is still scarred from the Yugoslavian state collapse and the inter-ethnic/inter-faith war of the 1990s.
